6th Ave & 7th Street Intersection Closed Feb 3-10

Downtown Links Constructors (DLC), under contract with the City of Tucson Department of Transportation and Mobility have begun work on the Downtown Links project.

Motorists, bicyclists, and pedestrians should anticipate intermittent lane restrictions throughout the limits of the project in addition to the following upcoming work:

The intersection of Sixth Avenue and Seventh Street will be closed from 6 a.m. Wednesday, February 3 through 5 p.m. Wednesday, February 10, 2021. The closure will be in place while the contractor completes the installation of a sewer line across Sixth Avenue. (See map)

To complete this work as quickly as possible, the contractor will work double shifts beginning Monday February 1, 2021. Crews will be on site from 4 a.m. through 10 p.m. weekdays until the sewer installation work is complete.

• Local traffic only will be permitted on Sixth Avenue between Sixth and Seventh streets.
• Bicycle, and pedestrian access to all businesses on Sixth Avenue between Sixth and Seventh streets will be maintained.
• Northbound and southbound travel will not be permitted through the Sixth Avenue underpass. The Sixth Avenue underpass will be closed to motorists at Toole Avenue.
• Pedestrian and bicycle access through the Sixth Avenue underpass will be provided along the east side of the roadway/underpass only.
• Vehicular travel and parking will not be permitted on Seventh Street between Arizona Avenue and Sixth Avenue.
• Seventh Street, west of the Sixth Avenue intersection is permanently closed to all vehicle, bicycle, and pedestrian traffic.

At 6 a.m. on Monday, February 8, 2021, westbound Franklin Street will be closed from Stone Avenue to Church Avenue for approximately two weeks while the contractor completes storm drain installation work. Access to the Franklin parking lot on the north side of Franklin Street, as well as area businesses and residents can be accessed by traveling north on Church Avenue to Franklin Street.
Church Avenue remains closed between Sixth Street and Franklin Street. Ninth Avenue between Sixth and Franklin streets is also closed. These closures are in place while the contractor completes underground infrastructure upgrades/improvements, retaining walls, curb and sidewalk, and paving. Both streets are scheduled to be closed until approximately April 2021.

The 30-month construction project is scheduled for completion in early 2023.

The schedule is subject to change due to inclement weather or unforeseen circumstances.

Beginning Monday, January 4, 2021, at about 5 a.m., Stone Avenue will close to the traveling public between Fifth Street and Sixth Street. The closure will be in place through early March 2021 while the contractor builds the underground drainage structure that crosses Stone Avenue.

  • Motorist traveling north on Stone Avenue from the downtown area will be required to turn eastbound or westbound at Sixth Street. Through travel will not be permitted. Left turns to westbound Sixth Street is temporary and will only be permitted during this closure.
  • Eastbound Franklin Street, at Stone Avenue, will be reduced to one through lane and one left-turn lane.
  • Motorists who typically use Stone Avenue to travel between Speedway Boulevard and Sixth Street should use Fourth Avenue or Granada/Main avenues as alternate routes.
  • Pedestrians and bicyclists will not be permitted to walk or ride within the work area.

6th Street Closed Wednesday Night

Sixth Street will be closed from Stone Avenue to Granada Avenue from 8 p.m. Wednesday, December 16 through 6 a.m. the following morning, Thursday, December 17. The overnight closure will allow the contractor to safely complete temporary restriping of the roadway.

  • Beginning at 6 a.m., Thursday, December 17, traffic on east and westbound Sixth Street will be reduced to one lane in each direction and shifted to the north side of the roadway between Granada Avenue and the Union Pacific railroad crossing.

Church Avenue is closed between Sixth Street and Franklin Street. Ninth Avenue between Sixth and Franklin streets is also closed. The closures will be in place while the contractor completes underground infrastructure upgrades/improvements, retaining walls, curb and sidewalk, flat work and paving. Church Avenue is closed between Sixth Street and Franklin Street. Ninth Avenue between Sixth and Franklin streets is also closed. Stone One Lane from Toole to Fifth

On Monday, November 16 through Friday, November 20, from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day, northbound Stone Avenue will be reduced to one travel lane from Toole Avenue to Fifth Steet. This closure accommodates large equipment as the contractor backfills on top of the newly constructed drainage facility on the northeast corner of Stone Avenue and Sixth Street.

  • Eastbound Franklin Street at Stone Avenue will be reduced to one through and one left turn lane
  • All other turn movements within this closure will be maintained

6th Ave & 7th Street Intersection Closed Week of October 12th

The intersection of Sixth Avenue and Seventh Street will be closed from 6 a.m. Monday, October 12, through 5 p.m. Friday, October 16, 2020. The closure will be in place while the contractor removes existing water lines and installs a temporary sewer bypass system across Sixth Avenue. (See map)

  • Only local traffic will be permitted between Sixth and Seventh streets.
  • Vehicle, bicycle and pedestrian access to all businesses on Sixth Avenue between Sixth and Seventh Street will be maintained.
  • Northbound Sixth Avenue will be closed at Toole Avenue. North and southbound travel will not be permitted through the Sixth Avenue underpass.
  • Vehicular travel will not be permitted on Seventh Street between Arizona Avenue and Sixth Avenue.
  • Pedestrian and bicycle access through the Sixth Avenue underpass will be provided along the east side of the roadway/underpass only.
  • Seventh Street, west of the Sixth Avenue intersection is closed to all vehicle, bicycle and pedestrian traffic.
  • Parking will not be permitted along the southside of Seventh Street, between Sixth Avenue and Arizona Avenue while the sewer bypass system is in place. This parking restriction is expected to be in place through December 31, 2020.

Sixth Avenue Restriping Thursday Night

Sixth Avenue, between Sixth Street and Seventh Street, is scheduled to be re-striped beginning at 8 p.m., Thursday, October 8, 2020. The restriping operation will provide back-in parking along the east side of Sixth Avenue and parallel parking along the west side. Sixth Avenue is scheduled to reopen to vehicular travel by 3 a.m. Friday, October 9.

  • Sixth Avenue will be closed to all vehicular travel between Sixth and Seventh streets during the restriping operation.
  • Crews will paint over all conflicting existing stripes and re-stripe new lines with temporary paint, as well as re-paint the existing stop bars and cross walks at the Sixth Avenue and Seventh Street intersection.
